FAQs

Search Sightings

In this area, you can view the birding activity of mybirdwatcher members anytime of the year all across the US and Canada. View an up-to-the-minute report of what birds are being seen by members across the U.S. and Canada.

Here's an example of how this feature works:

A mybirdwatcher member from Arkansas goes birding and sees a Red-headed Woodpecker. She then submits her sighting of a Red-headed Woodpecker into the My Trip Lists area. Her sighting is automatically entered in the Sightings Search database (because she has opted to share her bird sightings with the community)*.

Let's say, another mybirdwatcher member does a Sightings Search for Red-headed Woodpeckers. The Red-headed Woodpecker sighting from the Arkansas member would appear under the Sightings Search results.

The Sightings Search can also be customized to report occurrences when your favorite birds are seen in specific geographic areas. Check out My Rare Bird Alert page to see how.

Please click here for bird reporting ethics.

* Applies to only those members who have opted to share their bird sightings. You can change this option within Edit My Profile.
